Brijendra Singh Ola: From State Politics to National Stage
Brijendra Singh Ola, a seasoned leader from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, has transitioned from state politics to the national arena. Born on July 1, 1953, in Aradavata village, Chirawa tehsil, he hails from a family with a strong political legacy; his father, Sis Ram Ola, was a former Union Minister and a five-time Member of Parliament.
Political Journey
Ola’s political career began with his election to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly in 2008, representing the Jhunjhunu constituency. He was re-elected in 2013, 2018, and 2023, serving as a four-term MLA. During his tenure, he held the position of State Minister for Transport and Road Safety (Independent Charge) from November 2021 to December 2023.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ola contested the Jhunjhunu seat, defeating BJP candidate Shubkaran Chaudhary by a margin of 18,235 votes. He secured a total of 553,168 votes, representing 49.44% of the total votes cast in the constituency.
Contributions and Initiatives
As a legislator, Ola focused on infrastructure development, particularly in the transport sector. His efforts led to the approval of roads from the MLA quota, benefiting villagers in his constituency. Additionally, he advocated for the establishment of a Loharu–Pilani rail line, which was later approved, enhancing connectivity in the region.
Personal Background
Ola holds a Master’s degree in Political Science (1974) and a Bachelor of Laws (1983) from the University of Rajasthan. He is married to Dr. Raj Bala Ola, who previously contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Jhunjhunu.
Recent Developments
In the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly elections, Ola’s son, Amit Ola, contested the Jhunjhunu seat but was defeated by BJP’s Rajendra Bhamboo by a significant margin of nearly 43,000 votes. This marked a notable shift in the region’s political landscape, ending the Ola family’s long-standing influence in the area.
